Three days or a week?

How time changes a northern Tanzania safari.

A short safari can be rewarding when you keep the route compact. Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara form a workable three-day circuit from Arusha, with two highland nights. Adding the Serengeti changes the equation: the drive across the highlands takes a substantial part of a day, and it deserves time once you arrive.

For a first northern safari, five to seven days opens up more combinations. A second or third Serengeti night replaces packing and driving with time to follow the landscape. Nine days can make room for an arrival night, two nights in Tarangire and a less hurried return.

Compare travel days, not just park names. A four-day Serengeti safari and a four-day local-park circuit have very different rhythms. If time is tight, ask about a flight in or out, and check its full cost, baggage limits and connection times.
