Tanzania

A journey for you

Tanzania, at your own pace.
TANZANIA

Overview

Tanzania can be many journeys: a first safari on the northern plains, several quiet nights in a southern camp, a celebration beside the Indian Ocean or a mountain ambition followed by time to rest. The most useful starting point is how you want to feel, not how many destinations you can fit on a map.

We shape the route around your dates, interests, comfort and pace. Sometimes that means adding a flight; sometimes it means leaving out a park so you can spend longer in the place that matters most.

Why visit

Northern Tanzania combines Arusha, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti in a well-connected safari circuit. Mkomazi offers a different conservation-focused option in the northeast.

Southern Tanzania invites a different rhythm: Nyerere’s waterways and Ruaha’s landscapes can be explored from a small number of carefully chosen bases. A flight-led route often fits better than trying to cover the distance by road on a short holiday.

Zanzibar adds both cultural depth and a coastal stay. Kilimanjaro is a specialist undertaking: explore routes and mountain preparation with Eyes of Kilimanjaro, then let us coordinate the safari or island chapter around it.

When to go

There is no single best month for every Tanzania journey. Drier periods may suit one wildlife plan, while greener months can offer a softer landscape and a different atmosphere. Camp access, weather and your priorities should decide the route.

For migration travel, use the calendar as a starting hypothesis: southern plains around December–March, changing green-season movements in April–May, western and northward movement around June–July, and northern areas broadly July–October. Rainfall changes the detail.

Green-season travel should not be sold only as a discount. It can appeal to guests who value scenery and a less hurried atmosphere, but fewer vehicles and private sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Wildlife & character

Wildlife drives are one part of Tanzania. Ballooning, guided walking, locally hosted cultural and coffee visits, spice tours and time on the water can add depth when they fit the place and the guest.

Choose a few experiences well. Optional activities should have their own time, price and suitability checks, rather than being presented as an unlimited list included in every itinerary.

Where to stay

Accommodation ranges from simple camps to sophisticated lodges, intimate tented settings and high-end beach hotels. A tent can be a luxury room; a lodge label alone says little about its location or service.

For family travel, begin with ages, room arrangements, pool supervision and tolerance for driving. For celebrations and luxury travel, discuss privacy, dining, guiding and how much road time you want to avoid.

Camp location often matters more than category. The right seasonal Serengeti base, or a hotel positioned for a sensible transfer, can improve a trip more than a room upgrade in the wrong place.

Getting there

Choose airports around the route: Kilimanjaro International Airport serves many northern arrivals, Arusha Airport is a separate domestic gateway, Dar es Salaam is useful for southern journeys and Zanzibar for island travel. Actual tickets and available services determine the connection.

Internal flights can save road time but still require airstrip transfers, check-in and luggage planning. Scheduled services may stop en route. Keep generous buffers between safari travel and international departures.

TANZANIA

How long to stay

For a first northern safari, consider about six to eight safari days if you want both Serengeti and other major stops at a comfortable pace. Shorter journeys work when their scope is kept focused.

Add four or five Zanzibar nights for a relaxed safari-and-beach combination. An arrival night and flight days belong in the total; ten holiday days do not equal ten full activity days.

For a southern safari, three or four nights in one park can be a satisfying starting point. Combine parks only when you have enough time for each and the transfer between them.

Fees & planning costs

Safari cost depends on your route, dates, group size, accommodation, guiding arrangements and whether you travel by road or air. A private vehicle’s cost is shared differently by two travellers and six; a longer trip with fewer camp changes may give better value than a rushed multi-region itinerary.

A useful quotation separates accommodation and meals, transport, park charges, domestic flights and optional experiences. Check which taxes and transfers are included before comparing headline prices.

Eyes of Tanzania uses the TANAPA 2023/24 tariff as its current costing basis. Applicable conservation-area and route-specific charges are confirmed in your written quotation.

Good questions.

How much does a Tanzania safari cost?

The useful answer is a route-specific quotation. Dates, room choices, group size, park nights, private guiding and flights all affect the total. Tell us your comfortable budget and we can show where it will make the greatest difference.

How long should my first Tanzania trip be?

Around six to eight safari days is a useful starting point for a varied northern journey. Add arrival and departure logistics, plus four or five island nights if you want a beach chapter.

Should I choose northern or southern Tanzania?

The north suits a linked circuit with Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The south can suit longer stays at fewer camps and, in Nyerere, a water-based element. Your interests and flight logistics matter more than a universal ranking.

Can a Tanzania safari feel luxurious?

Yes. Carefully selected camps, private guiding, thoughtful transfers and well-chosen flights can create a sophisticated journey. We start with your definition of comfort and privacy rather than assume one style suits everyone.

Can I combine safari, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro?

Yes, with enough time and a realistic order. Plan the mountain with Eyes of Kilimanjaro, protect recovery time, and then coordinate the safari and island stays around that schedule.

Is green season a good idea?

It can be a very rewarding choice for the right route and expectations. We check access, camp operations and the experiences you value, rather than promise identical conditions at a lower price.
