Arusha

Begin with a little breathing room

Tanzania, at your own pace.
ARUSHA

Overview

Arusha is where many northern journeys become personal: an arrival, a conversation about what matters to you and a first quiet night before safari. Giving this beginning enough space can make the whole trip feel better.

The city, surrounding farms and Arusha National Park are different experiences. Choose an extra day for the one that interests you, rather than filling time with an indistinct city tour.

Why visit

An arrival night protects the itinerary from flight fatigue and creates time for a safari briefing. A second night can make room for coffee, culture or the nearby national park.

For travellers combining safari and Kilimanjaro, Arusha can help join the two parts of the trip. Climbing advice and mountain routes belong with our specialist brand, Eyes of Kilimanjaro.

ARUSHA

When to go

Arusha works as a starting point throughout the year. Let the dates of your safari or climb lead the plan, and keep outdoor day activities flexible around weather.

A cloudy day can still be enjoyable; clear mountain views are not something to promise as part of a transfer or park visit.

ARUSHA

Wildlife & character

Arusha National Park offers forest, lakes and a different wildlife experience from the Serengeti. It can suit a day focused on landscape, birds and a change of pace.

Walking and canoeing may be arranged through authorised services, with the required guides, permissions and suitability checks. Coffee and cultural visits outside the park should be hosted and agreed in advance.

Where to stay

Choose an arrival hotel around comfort, transfer logistics and your next morning’s departure. A garden setting outside the centre may suit a restful start; a city hotel may suit other practical needs.

A sophisticated lodge or hotel can be part of a luxury journey without adding unnecessary nights. Tell us if a pool, accessible room, family layout or late check-in matters.

ARUSHA

Getting there

Arusha Airport and Kilimanjaro International Airport are different airports. Check the airport code on each ticket and include the correct road transfer; an Arusha domestic departure is not automatically at your international arrival airport.

Do not rely on a tight same-day connection after a long safari drive. Confirm the exact flight and transfer plan, or allow an overnight.

ARUSHA

How long to stay

One arrival night is a useful starting point. Add a full day if you want Arusha National Park, coffee or a deeper local experience.

After a climb, protect time to rest before a demanding safari transfer rather than assuming everyone wants to depart immediately.

Fees & planning costs

Park admission is one part of the cost. Your quotation should distinguish conservation entry, any accommodation-related park charges, vehicle charges and separately booked activities. Age, residency, dates and where you sleep can change the calculation.

The official tariff page retrieved for this guide labels its schedule Financial Year 2023/2024, valid until June 2024. We have not verified a replacement schedule for your travel dates and therefore do not present those historic amounts as current prices.

Arusha city itself is not a national-park admission. The park tariff applies only when that park visit forms part of your plan; local tours are quoted separately.

Make the experience your own.

Journey ideas.

Good questions.

Are JRO and Arusha Airport the same?

No. Kilimanjaro International Airport and Arusha Airport are separate airports. Every transfer should be planned against the airport named on your actual ticket.

Is Arusha National Park a good first safari day?

It can be an enjoyable introduction to forest, lakes and wildlife. It offers a different experience from the large plains parks and should be chosen for that variety.

Can I arrange a coffee visit?

Yes, a locally hosted coffee experience can be requested. We check the location, host, availability and length so it fits comfortably into your day.

Can I add Kilimanjaro?

Yes. Explore mountain routes and specialist planning with Eyes of Kilimanjaro, then we can coordinate the safari portion around the confirmed climb.
